This is a primary school in north Manchester which had minimal play facilities for the nursery children.
Brief
To create enclosed areas that can be used for different activities, such as for three wheel bikes, seating and outdoor teaching.
Solution
We created a bike track and varied landform which provides all weather outdoor play with intrinsic play value to help develop balance and coordination. A circular outdoor classroom and amphitheatre provides opportunities for teaching and picnicking, while brightly coloured canopies hang from support posts to provide much needed shade in summer. A combination of fencing and planting provides security and privacy. The dilapidated canopy adjacent to the classroom is replaced to make it possible for the children to be outside all year.
