A large country garden, located in an elevated and exposed position overlooking the Barle Valley on Exmoor.
Brief
To create a more useable space in a traditional country house style which would be more conducive to outdoor entertaining and which capitalises on extensive views to the southwest while providing adequate shelter.
Solutions
The outdoor space is divided into a series of linked garden ‘rooms’ and spaces of varying degrees of intimacy and with different planting styles. Using larger plant stock for immediate effect, trees and hedging are used to create shelter as well as divide the space and frame key views. A number of sculptures were placed at key points, and further enhanced with lighting. Use of an irrigation system allowed the planting of mature nursery stock out of season. |
